How to Fix a Loose or Rocking Paving Slab
Lift and re-bed a small loose paving slab while checking for failed bedding, drainage problems and surrounding movement.
- Confirm the problem is local. If many slabs are sinking, rocking or holding water, the issue may be sub-base settlement or drainage rather than one failed bed.
- Lift the loose slab carefully using suitable tools and protect adjacent slabs from chipping.
- Remove failed loose bedding and inspect the sub-base below. Replace and compact any local void or disturbed material before re-bedding.
- Clean the underside of the slab and use the bedding/primer system appropriate to the paving material. Porcelain and some natural stone systems may require a bonding slurry or specific primer.
